During this Jubilee Year of Hope have you noticed the logo and wondered about the design?
The Jubilee logo shows four stylized figures, representing humanity coming from all four corners of the earth. They embrace each other showing solidarity and fraternity uniting all peoples. The figure at the front is holding onto the cross – not only the sign of faith but also of hope. Under the figures are rough waves – life’s pilgrimage is not always smooth. The lower part of the cross is elongated and, as it is let down into the waves, turns into an anchor. In maritime jargon the ‘anchor of hope’ is the reserve anchor used to steady the ship during a storm. The journey is communal, moving towards the cross, which bent green letters spell out the Jubilee motto: Peregrinantes in Spem (Pilgrims in Hope).
