Margaret Clitherow: The Pearl of York- New Display at the Bar Convent,

A new display coming up at the Bar Convent Heritage Centre, York, as part of an exhibition which tells the fascinating history of the house, and a visit to the 18th century chapel where Saint Margaret Clitherow’s relic is housed.

The Bar Convent is the oldest living convent in the UK, established illegally in 1686. The order in residence, now known as the Congregation of Jesus, were responsible for opening the first schools for girls in the country (the second one at this house).
