National Pilgrimage to York 2019

The National Pilgrimage to York took place on the feast of St Margaret Citherow 30th August 2019. The mass took place at 2.00 p.m. at St Wilfrid’s Church, York (situated just next to York Minster). The sermon was given by our Spiritual Advisor Bishop Peter Doyle of Northampton Diocese. Over 300 gathered in the church for Mass and afterwards around 180 followed on to the Principal Hotel for a fabulous afternoon tea. The day was enjoyed by all and the organisation was brilliant as was the organist for the mass – very impressive.

A full album of photos appears on our Facebook page and also video snippets of the hymns of the mass and of the Bishop’s sermon.

Catholic Women’s League – Pilgrimage to York on 29th -31st August Nine members of the Wymondham Section traveled to York and joined over 300 other League pilgrims. A beautiful spiritually uplifting Mass was celebrated in St Wilfred’s Church in the shadow of the Minster. This was followed by a delicious afternoon tea at the Principal Hotel. Four members Teresa, Heather, Anne and Lorencia decided to visit the Minster for evening prayer. The organ, singing and prayers in that magnificent building were stunning and complimented the spirituality of the day. However, as we left we met the clergyman who had presided over the service and we engaged in conversation. He was very interested in the Catholic Women’s League and then offered to take us on a guided tour of St William of York’s tomb. Gates were unlocked, lights were switched on and we were lead down a flight of stone steps. Our guide was none other than, the Dean of the Minster Rev.Dr. Jonathan Frost and he gave an in depth account of the life and death of St William. He then invited us to pray with him in this designated ecumenical space, as we left more than 30 minutes later we were all over whelmed and speechless, well almost speechless. On Friday morning we came together for Mass at St George’s church and the priest welcomed and blessed Wymondham’s little band of pilgrims before they traveled back to Norfolk. It was truly a blessed weekend full of faith, fun and companionship. I am sure every member of the CWL who attended the pilgrimage in York returned to their sections with a greater sense of privilege, as members of an amazing organisation. Love and prayers to you all.
